Spring Cleaning…
Posted on March 28th, 2007 at 1:24 pm by Bulldog

As with any normal Spring Cleaning, you got to clean things up and make them look spiffy again. It was a long winter (still don’t feel like it’s over) and I felt the need to fix this place up a bit. Since I’m rather partial to the color (or lack thereof) black, I bring you this layout. Please bear with me as I get things back squared away. Still got more spit and polish to put on things around here. Thanks for your patience.

Lies, Lies, and More Lies
Posted on March 20th, 2007 at 7:16 am by Bulldog

Seems to be all the Bush Administration is peddling these days. Eight US Attorneys are fired for “performance issues” when in reality, they were fired for strictly political reasons. Attoney General Gonzales weak excuse was that the firings “were not handled approriately” and that “he was not made aware of all of the information surrounding the firings”. Lies, lies, and more lies. To top it all off, Gonzales and the Bush Administration had the Patriot Act changed to allow the Justice Dept. to appoint new US Attorneys without Congressional confirmation. Think they had these 8 US Attorneys in mind when they lobbied for that change? I know I do. Now President Bush and AG Gonzales say they “will not fight” the push to have the law changed back to require confirmation of new US Attorneys. Boy, does that sound like throwing the dogs a bone. The facts of these firings are still coming out, but what is out there already seems to, once again, prove what those of us on the left felt from Day One about Alberto Gonzales. He is Bush’s lackey and his primary focus is on what Bush and his staff want rather than what’s good for the country. Just one more case of cronyism at the highest levels of our government.

Had this happened at any private company, you know damn well the stockholders would have forced the hand of the executives to have the person who committed such lapses in judgement and oversight canned immediately or at least forced to resign. While I was in the Marine Corps, each person in the chain of command was responsible for what his/her subordinates did, all the way up to Commandant of the Marine Corps. As I was an NCO, had one of my Lance Corporals, PFCs, or Privates pulled some stupid shit off-base, I was ultimately responsible for their actions. In the most egregious of cases, I could potentially have been charged under the UCMJ had I had any knowledge of their actions and failed to report it. So it goes in this instance with Alberto Gonzales and the Bush Justice Dept.

Like it or not, Alberto Gonzales WILL take the fall for this “mistake in judgement”. One only wishes that our newly-elected Democratic Congress takes things a step further and begins preparing articles of impeachment for Bush and Cheney as well since that is where all of this starts and ends.

Walter Reed would have never allowed this…
Posted on March 6th, 2007 at 7:02 am by Bulldog

The scandal that has most recently rocked the Walter Reed Army Medical center is a tragedy that didn’t have to happen. God knows Maj. Walter Reed, for which the center is named, would never have allowed this kind of shit to happen. Now I could go all moonbat on you guys and blame this all on Bush, which, while somewhat justified due to Iraq, would not be totally fair. The allegations (read: truths) coming out of Walter Reed concerning the outpatient care facilities go much deeper and have been going on longer than Bush’s presidency.

Many of us that truly support the troops have been saying for years that the VA and its handling of veterans, spanning from World War II, to Korea, to Vietnam, to Gulf War I, to Iraq and Afghanistan, is reprehensible at the very least. Part of the blame, however, does lay at Bush’s and the Pentagon’s feet: specifically their budgeting process and how much is actually allocated to the care of our servicemen and -women. In the not-too-distant past, most of you should recall the fight by veterans of Gulf War I to have their illnesses diagnosed and treated properly. In fact, that fight is still ongoing today. It’s a travesty. Those young men and women that our Commander in Chief puts in harm’s way, by virtue of Executive Order or whatever, deserve no less than top-of-the-line, premium medical care. Those at Walter Reed didn’t get it.

The blame for this fiasco needs to be placed squarely upon the shoulders of the top commanders of Walter Reed as well as those in the Pentagon. The Veterans Administration should also be taken to task for their horrible mismanagement of after-service care for these men and women. Now I know that I’m mixing the two issues, care at Walter Reed and care at VA Hospitals and outpatient clinics, but to me, the issues are damn near interchangeable because they both represent what has been wrong with military and veteran’s healthcare since at least Vietnam. When you have an ultra-nationalistic President saying “Support the Troops” at every press conference and photo op, you’d expect him to put his money where his mouth is and make sure that the “Troops” are taken care of before, during, and after deployments.

I can’t wait to see some heads roll for this. Preferably Bush’s, Cheney’s, and Rumsfeld’s, but I know they were not directly responsible for this mess. Shit like this takes more than 4 years of degradation and willful negligence to get to the condition these buildings were found to be in. There is absolutely no excuse for rats, cockroaches, and other critters to be found in these dilapidated buildings or in any military facility for that matter. The fact that many of these injured personnel were not even given medical escorts to get where they needed to go is nothing less than a damn shame. All of this begs the question: Does our government really “Support the Troops” or is that just a tired, worn-out line to be used whenever they feel it necessary?
