Welcome visitors from Main And Central!
Posted on September 30th, 2005 at 8:00 am by Bulldog

To those visiting from Main And Central: Welcome. I’d like to thank you all for dropping by. Beer’s in the fridge. Other than that, it’s BYOB. Feel free to look around, drop a comment or two, or visit some of my other links to the right. I’m sure folks on my blogroll won’t mind a bit. Some of them have a more fully stocked bar than I do here. Anyway, thank you for stopping by.

Attention on DECK!

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything significant and for that I’d like to apologize to my loyal readers. As most of you know by now, I spent some time about a week ago in the NYC area for work. Other than that, I’ve been kinda disgusted with everything that has gone on of late. Hurricane Katrina devastated a place I once called home for 2 years of my military life. Hurricane Rita delivered a knock-out punch to the same area. Cindy Sheehan got arrested 2 days after a VERY successful protest aimed at bringing our troops back home from that Debacle in the Desert™. All of this is noteworthy, but I haven’t been able to get the motivation up enough to post anything on it. Folks listed in my blogroll to the right have done a MUCH better job of it. Now that that’s been said, let me tell you about something new.

Jo Fish of Democratic Veteran has launched a new group blog online magazine called Main And Central that I’ve been asked to participate in. Actually, I volunteered myself to the good sailor and he graciously, or was it hesitatingly, agreed. This opportunity has somewhat renewed my “vim and vigor” about writing poignant, and sometimes funny, posts about the state of the world and this country today. So, as a favor to me, regardless of your political leaning, head on over to Main And Central today and give a holler to the guys there. Every last one of the contributors are veterans of the military, so be respectful and salute when necessary. I want to thank you all again for being patient with me and sticking around.

Wake Me Up, When Bush’s Term Ends (a parody)
Posted on September 30th, 2005 at 7:14 am by Bulldog

(To the tune of Green Day’s Wake Me Up When September Ends)

Thou-sands have died
In the Per-sian Gulf
Lea-ving behind
The ones they love

Wake Me Up, When Bush’s Term Ends

His plan for Social Se-cur-ity
off-ers no hope for
you or me

Wake Me Up, When Bush’s Term Ends

His po-li-cies are set by God
No separation there
I find that kind of odd
That George Bush just don’t care

He says we must
Stay the course
But for all who’ve died
There’s no remorse

Wake Me Up, When Bush’s Term Ends

He offers jobs to
All his friends
Don’t you wor-ry
He’ll get you in

Wake Me Up, When Bush’s Term Ends

2006 is almost here
The time to vote them
Out is near

Wake Me Up, When Bush’s Term Ends

His po-li-cies are set by God
No separation there
I find that kind of odd
That George Bush just don’t care

He says we must
Stay the course
But for all who’ve died
There’s no remorse

Slow-ly 5 years have passed
These last 3 years need to go by fast

Wake Me Up, When Bush’s Term Ends
Wake Me Up, When Bush’s Term Ends
Wake Me Up, When Bush’s Term Ends

Some questions for the Pro Iraq-war crowd
Posted on September 28th, 2005 at 11:25 am by Bulldog

I got a few questions for those who oppose what Cindy Sheehan and her group tried to accomplish last weekend with their protest in DC. For some reason I find it hard to figure out their logic. I don’t know if it’s just plain ignorance or if they’re willfully ignoring the obvious. Here goes:

  1. You claim that Cindy and her group are not “supporting the troops”. Can you think of a better way to support the troops than to try to get them out of harm’s way? I mean, these men and women are being shot at on a daily basis, harassed with roadside bombs, and basically in a war zone. So how is wanting them all back home not “supporting the troops”?
  2. You claim that you support all of our troops fighting for “our freedom”. Do you live on Allah Akbar(sp?) Ave. in downtown Baghdad? Because in case you didn’t realize it, this war is NOT about OUR freedom. When you drive to work each day bitching about the high gas prices, do you encounter roadside bombs? I’m talking about the real deal here, not little piles of tire debris or aluminum cans scattered at the curb.
  3. You all claim that 9/11 and Iraq are linked–just like the President. The fact of the matter is that there is and was no link, no matter how much the President contends there was. When are you people going to wake up and realize that we have created a monster with regards to the War in Iraq? When are you going to realize that the men and women dying everyday in Iraq are NOT dying for their family, dying to keep the terrorists over there instead of here, or dying to protect OUR freedoms?

Afghanistan was a noble cause. Frankly because that is where those responsible for 9/11 holed up after the attacks. As Democratic Veteran likes to point out, Osama Bin Laden has become Osama Bin Forgotten. Even though we have troops still in Afghanistan, the mission to capture Osama has been forgotten by our President and his band of merry men (Condi included). There have been reports of the Taliban regrouping, which has made this a very deadly year for our troops there, but you know what? I and many others who oppose our involvement in Iraq support the mission there. At least with Afghanistan we weren’t sold a load of bullshit. The sad part about it however, is that the Taliban are learning from Iraq. They are learning how best to attack our troops and kill them.

Well, enough griping for now. Let’s hear some of you chime in on this. I’m sure it’ll be interesting to hear your logic.

Gone to look for America…

I’ll be counting the cars on the New Jersey turnpike. Actually I’m just going to the NYC area for a few days for work. Don’t worry, I’ll be back to piss some people off rant about this and that some time next week. It’s not like I write a whole lot now as it is. See ya next week. I might put something out here while I’m gone, I might not. Depends on my mood. If I’m lucky, I’ll get a chance to meet some friends I made because of this here blog online magazine. You all have fun and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.

School is in session…again
Posted on September 1st, 2005 at 12:25 pm by Bulldog

If you’re a parent like me, you know the joy and sadness that comes with the first day of school. Making sure the kids have everything they need. Then worrying like hell that they might have forgotten something. After that comes the utter silence of a household with no little voices giggling or saying “Mooo-oooom! Can I have something to eat?” or “Daaaa-aaad! My controllers broken again! Can you fix it?”

Both of my kids are well past the literal first day of school, but it still kinda sucks seeing them go, no matter how much of a pain they could sometimes be over the summer. Typically, at least toward the end of the summer break, it was constant gripes of “I’m bored! There’s nothing to do!” I remember saying the same thing to my parents as I was growing up. Being a parent myself, I now know this to be untrue; there’s just nothing that they want to do NOW. In just a few short years, my son will be on his way to college and my daughter will be in high school. Wherever does the time go? There’s no clock you can turn back to reclaim those lost years. So, if you’re a parent too, make your best effort to get involved with your kids. I don’t mean ship them off to this activity and that camp, I mean spend some honest time with them. Find out what they’re interested in and try to at least fake your interest in it too. You’ll thank yourself later and your kids will have fond memories of growing up, albeit way too fast.

First day of school. Not many more “First days” left. Man, I miss my kids already and their first day isn’t even over yet.
